Makueni nominated member of county assembly Hon Janet Kitung’a has urged the county government to device policies that will protect victims of gender based violence.
In a motion that she tabled before the assembly on Thursday Kitung’a said that cases of gender based violence have been on the rise and there’s need for a protection system .
“We urge the county government to develop a policy on Sexual and Gender Based Violence, placing emphasis on the welfare and rights of victims which also calls for expeditious investigation of the incidences and efficient prosecution of the perpetrators of the heinous acts,” said Kitung’a.
She called for an establishment of a rehabilitation centre by the devolved units and not to mention free medication attention for the victims.
She also called for the prosecution of the perpetrators of such violence to ensure a violence free community.
“We all saw the latest incident where Daud Nzomo assaulted his wife on camera this motion will ensure protection of victims and help reduce stigma.
Her motion was suported by Kee ward representative Isaack citing that a policy will give guidance on how to handle GBV cases.
” There will be reduced stigma attached to sexual abuse and gender based violence,the policy will also ensure victim protection”,He said.
