Makueni Residents living in the coast region have launched a Makueni-Mombasa diaspora chapter with the aim to get involved in a united and active role in growth of Makueni County.

During its inauguration which was graced by County Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana, the community donated 83 pieces of iron sheets in a bid to support flood victims in rebuilding their houses.

They have also contributed Sh.3.3M to buy shares in the Ene Microfinance which targets Sh 5M before it opens its doors.

Speaking in the event, the community chairman Richard Kinovi said the community has some several objectives.

According to Kinovi, the community aims to unite all Makueni people living in the coastal region and also help them grow financially and mobilize resources to invest in Makueni.

The chapter also intends to market the products of Makueni in Mombasa County to spearhead the economic development of the county.

Kinovi also said that their community will collaborate with other diaspora communities such as the London based –UK chapter to mobilize resources and exploit potential economic prospects for its members and the county at large.

Prof Kibwana praised the chapter and assured his support to the members.

“We are very grateful for the support we are getting from our people in the diaspora. As the Government of Makueni we are ready and very much willing to work with you” assured the Governor.

“In the near future, diaspora chapters will be opened in Nairobi, London and other cities with the hope that the diaspora community will create links with each other and sustain a vibrant discourse on the development of their mother Countries.” Read prof. Kibwana’s tweet.

Kibwana also said the chapter has demonstrated what an ideal diaspora community should do to institutionalize its actions and set itself for higher socio-economic as well as political influence of its mother Country.
