Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana is serving his last term which ends in 2022.
Succession politics in the county have already started playing in the public domain with many people suggesting that Kivutha is mentoring somebody within the county to take after him.
Under the leadership of Kivutha Kibwana, Makueni county seems to be miles ahead with projects impacting the residents directly.
The governor among many initiatives has introduced public participation where residents suggest projects they want the county to do for them.
Kivutha’s leadership and project priority style is envied by many, The county under his leadership have already achieved the first ever processing plant.
With the great projects that governor Kivutha has started in the county, some which may not be complete by 2022 everybody expects him to have a successor.
To the shock of many Makueni governor may not present anybody to the people to success him after his term is over.
“Politicians are not easy to mentor, because, many of the politicians think that they are self sufficient” Kivutha said while in an interview with one of the local TV station.
The former advisor of retired President Mwai Kibaki has however been a mentor of many prominent people in the country in sectors he has worked including the law sector when he was a law lecturer at the University of Nairobi.
Kivutha says that he will however educate the Makueni residents on the kind of a leader they should elect to come after him and give them the chance to elect their next governor without fronting anybody.
“What you can do in terms of civic education, you do civic education so that they know what kind of a leader they should choose”, the Governor added.
Been the advisor of retired president Mwai Kibaki, the Makueni Governor may take the same path that Kibaki took and choose to leave it to the residents to elect their preferred leader without luring them to a particular candidate.
“Like president Kibaki, I don’t think he said that people should choose Uhuru… and some times as a leader you can prefer somebody and then the citizens say no we don’t want that one, and then you have bad egg on your face” Kivutha maintained.
With that it seems to be clear that Kivutha will not be fronting anyone as many have been trying to drag him to the succession politics.
