Makueni police nab three suspects with elephant tusks worth sh.47 million

Makueni police on Sunday nabbed three men found in possession of elephant tusks worth 47 million shillings.

Confirming the arrest Joseph Ole Napeiyan, Makueni police commander the trio were arrested at two different operations.

He said that Samuel Mbevu and Isaac Otieno were arrested at Mtito Andei with tusks weighing 11kg worth sh.1,400 000.

The other suspect Joshua Kimilu was nabbed in Malili with seven tusks weighing 234 kilograms worth sh.46,800,000.

There were two operations conducted by police one in Malili and the other one in Mtito Andei”,  Said Ole Naipeyan.

He said that the suspects were planning on selling the tusks to a foreign buyer from Italy.

Ole Napeiyan noted that the operation was conducted after information from different sources.

He said that the suspects are in police custody and will appear in court on Monday and be charged for being in possesion of game trophies.

He added that police will vonduct patrol along Nairobi-Mombasa highway to ensure that there are no more suspects conducting such illegal operations.

He warned that the law won’t be lenient to anyone involved in crime again at wildlife.

You won’t be spared anyone found culpable must face the law”, He said
