May, 18 Makueni Boss Kivutha Kibwana warned corrupt contractors over poor work and misuse of County resources.Kivutha said Makueni will not tolerate corruption and poor work by contractors working on county projects.
Kibwana noted that his administration will deal deal mercilessly with staff found engaging in malpractices.
“We will not tolerate incidences of corruption and blackmail. I urge you to report cases of corruption to my office directly. In the past, we have been ruthless with corrupt people so if we get them, we will eject them from the system,” Kibwana said .
The County Governor met contractors awarded tenders by the department of roads, transport and infrastructure.
Kibwana also want reports of missing files as part of efforts to help contractors do their best jobs and get paid without having to blackmail.
While acknowledging challenges in dealing with some of the business people, Kibwana said he will create a forum for parties to discuss their problems.
“It is important to create a platform where we can talk and get to understand each other,” Kivutha said.
County Secretary Paul Wasanga urged the contractors to employ locals to support the government in giving money back to the people.
“When you go to the ground please give some of the jobs to the locals. When you do that, they will even protect your equipment,” Wasanga said.
Roads executive committee member Sebastian Kyoni warned the business people against handing down contracts awarded to them without seeking clearance from the county.
“When we request full compliance, cooperate with us and don’t compromise on supervision. Where you are required to undertake tests please comply,” kyoni said.
Finance executive Mary Kimanzi reported that the Makueni government has had no problem paying contractors as paperwork has been in order.
“We always work with the budget so we don’t have a problem paying on time. It is the process that sometimes causes us to take long.” Kimanzi said.
