
Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to declare the ongoing floods a national disaster as the menace of heavy rains continue to bite.
The Senator said that the government should do this in an a bid to save the increasing number of Kenyans Gallo g victims of this calamity in various parts of the country.
Mutula also accused the National Disaster Management Authority of failing to save Kenyans from this menace in what he alleged to be poor management.
Makueni has been among the most affected counties in the country by the ongoing heavy rains with landslide experienced in Nunguni.
This comes at a time when the nation is mourning the Patel Dam tragedy in Nakuru where over 40 people lost their lives and over 300 families left homeless after the dam collapsed sweeping away the homes which were below the dam.
According to reports over 70% of Tana River county is said to have also been submerged into water following the ongoing heavy rains across the country.
Up to now over One hundred and thirty-two people have been reported to have lost their lives from the ongoing heavy rains and floods across various parts of the country.
