One person was reported dead while five others escaped with injuries after being assaulted by moran (Maasai) herders on the morning of Saturday, July 4.
The assault that took place at 2am in the morning occurred at the Mikululu area of Makueni county.
Confirming the incident, the Makueni county commissioner, Mohammed Maalim said that the assault was reported during the normal morning briefs from the police department.
“We would like to confirm that this morning at around 2am in Mikululu, there was an assault that resulted to the death of one individual.” Mohammed said.
The county commissioner noted that immediately after receiving the news, the Makueni police force got in touch with their Kajiado counterparts. The two sidea then sent a joint investigations team to the scene where they recovered a shield, allegedly belonging to on of the Moran fighters.
” One person, a 21 year old young man was confirmed murdered at the scene. We have also confirmed that 5 people sustained severe injuries and are hospitalised at the Makindu level 4 hospital.” the county commissioner reported.
According to the reports from the scene, as group of 30 morans from the neighboring Kajiado County attacked and assaulted the victims.
“The 30 suspects were armed with crude weapons such as a spears and shields. To confiem this, our officers recovered exhibits from the scene in the form of a shield.” said Maalim.
The county commissioner further promised that the two counties will dig into root of the matter and ensure that the culprits are brought to book.
